
Rabba Tamar Elad-Appelbaum is a Jerusalemite faith leader, the founding Rabbi of the Zion community of Jerusalem; co-founder of The Beit Midrash for Israeli Rabbis at the Hartman Institute and HaMidrasha at Oranim, co-founder of The Ritual Center, and more national rabbinic activism initiatives. Board member of Tag Meir, Voice Of the People global Jewish council of the Israel’s Presidents House, The Civil Commission, 929, Meitarim, A Land for All, Council of Religious leaders of Judur Shorashim, Yanshuf, IJCIC International Jewish Committee on Inter-religious Consultations, Women Wage Peace, and more.
Recipient of the Hebrew University Flegg Prize, co-recipient of the Stulman prize, Honey fellow. Served as rabbi of Congregation Magen Avraham in the Negev; Temple Israel Center White Plains New York alongside Rabbi Gordon Tucker. Co-editor of Mashiv Haruach Jerusalem Poem Anthology (2014), co-author of Lev Shalem commentary for Pirkei Avot (2018).
She has been recognized by the Forward as one of the five most influential female religious leaders in Israel for her work promoting Jewish pluralism human dignity and religious freedom.
Rabba Tamar and her husband Joseph have three daughters and live in Jerusalem.
