Chaim (Harvey) Hames is currently Rector of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
PhD in Medieval History from Cambridge University in 1996. Lecturer in the Department of General History at BGU since 1995. Served as department chair and was then elected Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (till 2018).
Set up the Center for the Study of Conversion and Inter-Religious Encounters in 2013.
Appointed a fellow of the Academia Europaea (The Academy of Europe) in 2019.
Research interests: Jewish, Christian and Muslim mysticism and philosophy, apocalypticism, inter-religious polemics, conversion, Bible and Talmud translations, conversion, Israel – past, present, future.
