Avner is a former executive director of Breaking the Silence, an Israeli human rights organisation comprised of former soldiers. His paratrooper service in the West Bank transformed his worldview. At Breaking the Silence, he amplified soldier testimonies, built cross-community coalitions, and advocated for accountability internationally.
He holds a Master's in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University and is currently studying at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford. An Alfred Landecker Scholar, his research focuses on the use of AI in war; he is also an Associate at Ofek: The Israeli Center for Public Affairs.
